Scientific explanation on why kumbh mela is celebrated at only 4 places every 12 year
In the earlier post on What is kumbh mela and why it is largest gathering of humans in the world , we learnt that kumbh mela is celebrated every 12 years at 4 different locations on earth. But then the question arises why after 12 years? Why not every year? Why at only four locations? Why not in every city? So, in this article, I will try to explain scientifically the reasons behind the celebrations of kumbh mela once in every 12 years at 4 locations

Demons chased demigods for possession of nectar
As we learnt in the previous article, demons and demigods churned the milky ocean to produce the nectar of immortality. Demigods knew that if the demons drank nectar and become immortal, then they will lose their rule over heaven forever.

So, When the pot containing nectar was produced from the milky ocean, demigods tricked the demons, took the pot and ran away to hide the pot from the demons. Feeling cheated, all demons in a rage chased gods for full 12 days and 12 nights.

1 Day of demigod is equal to 1 year of humans
In Hindu scriptures, it is clearly stated that time runs differently in different realm of existence. i.e Time runs much slower in planet of demigods than the time that runs on mother earth. In science, this concept is called as theory of relativity. Einstein studied theory of relativity from Indian scriptures and conducted his own detailed research and analysis to generate the equation E=mc2. If you don't believe me then read the below post for proof on "Theory of relativity" in Indian scriptures.

Theory of relativity can also be understood from the below post that shows our life is similar to a character played by you in a video game

After reading the above posts, you must have understood that 1 day of demigod in their planet is equivalent to 1 year of humans on mother earth. So, 12 yrs of gods is equivalent to 12 years of humans. This is why Kumbh Mela is celebrated after every 12 years on mother earth
Why kumbh mela in only four places on earth?
It is said that while the demigods were running away from the demons, few drops of nectar fell from their planet on four different places on earth. These four places on earth are - Allahabad (Prayag), Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik.
Drops of nectar fell on haridwar on the sixth day, and on Allahabad on the 9th day and in Nashik and Ujjain on the 12th day. So, kumbh mela is celebrated in nashik and Ujjain in the same year or following year within a gap of six months whereas it is celebrated in haridwar and Allahabad after a gap of 6 years and 3 years respectively.

How planetary positions influence your life?
IT has been said by enlightened sages that after every 12 years, climatic and planetary position align in such a way that the waters in the river situated near these cities turns into the nectar of immortality, thus giving devotes an opportunity to bathe in the essence of purity, auspiciousness, and immortality.
Impact of climatic and planetary position on human's life is now validated by science too. Science has proved that radiations by sun follows a cycle and is affected by the position of different planets. Effects of planets on humans can be studied through different types of eclipses when the earth atmosphere receives much more harmful radiations than usual.

How planetary positions decides the time of kumbh mela festival?

How kumbh-mela became a grand festival ?
Since time immemorial, Sages widely preached that the four sacred places on earth are blessed by demigods once in every 12 years and advised taking dips in four rivers to attain liberation or to live a healthy blissful life. These four rivers are:-
1) Triveni Sangam of river Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Allahabad
2) River Ganges in Haridwar
3) River Godavari in Nasik
4) River Kshipra in Ujjain,
Triveni sangam
Following the advice of sages and to encourage more people participation, ancient kings converted the kumbh gathering into a festival or funfair which is now known as Kumbh Mela. It has been recorded in many books that ancient kings distributed huge quantities of gold, silver, and jewels in charity to devotees and sages to acquire goodwill, piousness and liberation.
Believing that the drops of nectar from heaven have purified the rivers located at these four cities and following the advice of ancient sages, Millions of Hindus take a dip in these four rivers during the sacred period of kumbh mela to wash away all their sins and to achieve quick moksha (liberation from cycle of death and rebirth) and this is why kumbh mela is the world largest gathering on mother earth
Can anyone achieve liberation via a sacred bath?
Kumbha Mela is held in allahabad every twelve years and begins on Makar Sankranti, the day when the sun and moon enter Capricorn and Jupiter enters Aries. It is said that the passages from earth to planets of higher dimensions are open at this time, and so, the highly purified souls can easily go through these passages to reach the enlightened world. Unfortunately modern humans are so much trapped in materialistic pleasures that no soul in this Kaliyuga is so pure that it can reach the higher dimensional planets. So, in this dark age of kaliyuga, taking a sacred bath may wash away your sins but surely, you are not going to achieve liberation or passage to celestial world. Path to celestial world cannot be as easy as taking a sacred bath. Isn't it?
I conclude by saying that enjoy kumbh mela as a cultural festival or as a one step closer to god but don't take seriously the concept of liberation as it is not applicable in this age of kaliyuga.
